MiCA in Production: The European Stablecoin Shakeout
Reserve, disclosure, and redemption requirements are concentrating issuance among a small set of compliant operators.
MiCA's stablecoin provisions have moved from text to enforcement, and the early market structure effect is clear: a small number of fully compliant euro- and dollar-denominated issuers are absorbing the share previously held by lighter-touch operators.
For merchants and payment providers, the practical effect is a narrower but more bankable set of counterparties to integrate with. For non-EU issuers, MiCA functions as a de facto global standard that is shaping product decisions far outside Europe.
